Margate
City, New Jersey's popular seashore resort and charming
year round residential community, is located in Atlantic
County on the Garden State's southern shore.
Near Atlantic
City, Margate is nestled on Absecon Island between the
municipalities of Ventnor and Longport, south of America's
Favorite Playground. Originally part of Egg Harbor Township,
it was called South Atlantic City--from Washington Avenue
to Jackson Avenue--the ocean to the bay. It broke from
Egg Harbor Township in 1885 as the Borough of South
Atlantic City, and in 1897 changed its name to the City
of South Atlantic City. In 1909 the name was changed
to Margate City. Margate, literally meaning "Gateway
to the Sea" honors Great Britain's venerable seaside
resort of the same name.

Directions:
From
Philadelphia / Inland
- Take the Atlantic City Expressway to Exit 7S (Garden
State Parkway)
- Take Garden State Parkway Exit 36 (Northfield/Margate).
- Exit right onto Tilton Road, proceed on Tilton to
5-way intersection light at Shore Road.
- Cross intersection onto Margate
Bridge road (soft left).
- Proceed into Margate City, NJ.
Note: The Margate Bridge is now $1.00 entering and exiting the island.
